I’d like to respond to your recent article in UMR. I am a pretty decent student of Wesleyan hist ory–taught it for twelve years in seminary. Our present perdicament has similarities to the reform movements in 1792(resulting in the Christian Church, one of which I now serve); 1828(resulting in the Methodist Protestant Church which merged with the ME and ME,South churches in 1939), 1843(the Wesleyan Church); 1850′s(Free Methodist); 1894(Nazarene); c.a. 1900 (Assemblies of God), etc. etc. With all those withdrawals, some over polity issues and some over holiness, the mainstream church said, “damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead” and booted their departing children out the door. (18090′s we had the “push-outers” from te bishops and the “come-outers” from the Methodists who emphasized sanctification.
I’d like to “talk” with you, but I don’t blog, don’t facebook, don’t “link-in” and done tweet! Too busy still serving a church at age 77!
